The resort is beautiful and new. The pools are luxurious and the spa is top notch. It's also big and built into the side of a hill. There are little golf carts but most people walk around the place. Be prepared for lots of stairs. The beach is quite small, probably 1/3rd mile from end to end, but generally clean... more
Well, I am at the resort as we speak and it is so bad that I just had to write about it. This was our first vacation since we were married 12 years ago and this experience has been so disappointing that I'm not sure we'll do it again. I came here knowing what the reviews were but figured that... more
Hello!!!!! Just got back from the Republic. I went with my boyfriend (young couple 24-25), we had a week off and decided to take a little break from Europe. First time at Sun Village and we loved it! I would highly recommended it for couples looking for a friendly, relax place to stay, of course family and not soy young... more
I recently returned from the Sun Village in Puerto Plata, with my two sons, ages 13 and 16. In a word, the resort was "spectacular" and even beyond our wildest expectations. We arrived late on a Saturday night, and check-in was effortless and quite friendly. The rooms were beautiful. Flat screen TV, Ipod docking station, nice furniture, mini-bar restocked daily... more
I am a student studying abroad in the Dominican Republic, and stayed at the Sun Village Resort and Spa for four days over Thanksgiving when my family came to visit. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff and a concierge that speaks English. The entryway and set up of the resort is beautiful. There are many different pools and... more
It was our first time to the Sun Village and hoepfully won't be our last! The hotel was 'second to none' and well worth travelling all that way for. The staff at the hotel are genuine, so warm and friendly and so fun to talk too. The complex is huge, with beautiful gardens and well kept pools with a fantastic... more
I didn't stay in the Sun Village rooms, but we did have all-access to their facility while staying at the sister resort (more exclusive and VIP) next door at The Bungalows. Of what I did experience, here are my reviews: Restaurants: Citrus was good Italian, very elegant and seafood was cooked well. Lemongrass was Asian inspired and the service was... more
A group of 6 of us stayed at Sunvillage from November 9-November 16th, 2008. We booked through Skyauction and got a great deal. We originally were assigned the standard rooms but we upgraded to superior. After looking at the standard rooms I'm glad we got upgraded because many of them were under the pool. We arrived late and night and... more
I stayed at Sun Village from November 8-15, and had a wonderful experience there. I was definately nervous about the trip after reading some of the awful reviews, but after arriving I realized that I worried for nothing. I can understand some of the complaints that people have about the resort, but I am not the type to be bothered... more
