The cathedral is situated right in St. Mark's Square, the whole architect of the building was very impressive, and so were the details of art all over the walls and roof as well as inside. The best veiw of the whole building is if you stand right in the middle of the square and to get the best view of... more

I used TA extensively to plan my recent trip (July-mid Aug) to Spain, Italy, Greek, and Croatia and every TA tip had worked out so very well. So, I am writing my first TA message in hope to give back to the TA community. Yes, St. Marco Basilica is beautiful and is a must see when in Venice so the... more

Saint Mark's is great! Definitely 5 stars. We went yesterday and wish we'd read the review below first. We waited in line (not bad... about 20 minutes). When we reached the front and unbelievably cranky guard was yelling at people who had not already checked their backpacks, throwing one person's backpack into the main square in a dramatic and exciting... more

We just returned from the beautiful Venice, which is like a fairy tale. Sait Mark's Basilica was the top attraction we wanted to see. The lines were very long, but before the trip I read someplace that if you check a backpack (free), you can walk in without standing in line. Sure enough, we checked our bag (storage area is... more

I know that many travelers that go to Europe can get "cathedral fatigue" from seeing so many in every major and minor city that they visit. To be sure, most of these have their own history and are beautiful in their own way... but of the hundreds that I have seen this has to be the most stunning. In short,... more

One of our favorite churches that we saw on our European trip - the interior literally glowed with all of the gold. Rumor has it that the gold was plundered from foreign lands and brought to the church by sailors of old. The free walk-through was great, and be sure to look DOWN and see all of the amazing and... more

My wife and I stayed at Loconda Correr. In literally 4 minutes, you can walk to St Mark's basilica. The tour you can just walk through youself and the little artifact museum they have on the side is worth it. I think they charge like 3 euros each premium to see the museum. Do it.. The basilica inside is wonderful... more

We found the inside of the basilica a little disappointing and a bit 'touristy'. You have to follow the route marked out and there's not much time for browsing. It is really worth paying the small fees extra to go behind the alter and up to the 'loggia dei cavalli'. The entrance to the 'loggia dei cavalli' is just to... more

San Marco is an amazing basilica (and I've seen a lot of them) and the mosaics are truly stunning. The stone mosaics on the floor and the multi-colored golden mosaics above are equally worthy of your attention. Entry to the church itself is free (although you will need to check your bag and probably wait in line to get in,... more

This place is stunning, you see the outside and think nothing could be more beautiful until you see the inside and it's even more impressive. I only wish they let you take pictures (no flash of course) inside. more
